Your garden hose is wasting more water than you think!

Most homeowners are firing up hoses and sprinklers in June without realizing how much water is lost to worn washers and loose connections. If your exterior spigot - also known as a sillcock - leaks where the hose attaches to it, you may need to replace the rubber washers on your hose.

It’s a quick fix with a screwdriver and $5 bucks at your local Home Depot!

June Home Checklist

Summertime!

• Check window screens for tears or gaps — let’s keep those bugs and bees on the outside of our homes!

  
  

• Lubricate all door hinges, locks, and deadbolts throughout the home — humidity causes hardware to stiffen and wear faster in summer.

  
  

• Swap out any remaining incandescent or older CFL bulbs for LED — summer heat combined with inefficient bulbs noticeably raises indoor temps and energy bills

  
  

• Clean bathroom exhaust fans — dust-clogged fans run harder, last shorter, and do a poor job managing summer humidity

  
  

• Inspect garage weatherstripping along the bottom and sides of the door — worn stripping lets in humidity, bugs, and eventually water

  
  

• Check under sinks, around toilets, and behind appliances for any slow drips that have gone unnoticed — summer humidity makes water damage worse and faster
