Nuts & Bolts - August

This Month’s Quick Home Tip

Trim Shrubs Around Your AC Units!

Shrubs often grow around your AC units and block crucial airflow. With the summer heat we have been having, these blockages can cause your units to work harder that it needs to, which can lead to damage to the unit.

Take 10-15 minutes to ensure you don’t have any overgrowth around your units today!

August Home Checklist

  • With the recent rains we have been having, it’s worth checking out your attic space for leaks. Unnoticed leaks can create damage to your insulation and be a source for harmful mold growth.

  • Don’t forget your basement too! Along the same lines as leaks in your attic, make sure you’re inspecting your basements as well. Ensure either your french drains are clear of debris which can cause a build up of water, or that your sub pump is working fine (In a previous month’s newsletter, I shared an upgrade to add a backup battery back to sub pumps; if you’re interested, just let me know).

  • HVAC Filters - you should be replacing your air filters at least 4 times a year, but it’s best to check once a month. Look for debris buildup that can clog the filters and restrict them from providing the air quality you expect.

  • Clean your refrigerator grille - located either on the top or bottom of your fridge, the grille detaches and gives you access to the compressor and cooling coils. Dust and debris can build up here, blocking airflow, which over time can burn out your refrigerator’s cooling system.

Ireland cliffs

Back from Ireland!

My family and I just got back from 10 days in Ireland. From the amazing landscapes, unbelievably kind people, and of course delicious pints, it was a great trip!

While my wife and I have been blessed to travel overseas many times, this was the first trip with our kids. At 12, 10, and 5, I’m sure they will have different memories of the experience, but here are 3 things I hope landed with them:

  1. This world is so big, and yet so small at the same time.

  2. Try something new; often. You never know what your next favorite thing is.

  3. When given the choice of a pint of Guinness or a pint of Murphy’s. Choose Murphy’s every time! (sorry, I’m dying on this hill now!)

Summer is coming to a close, but we are excited to be back and soak in a few more weeks of sun!

Cheers,

Dave
