This Month’s Quick Home Tip

Test Your Smoke & CO Detectors

Most people don’t check these until they chirp at 3 AM.

Take one minute to:

• Press the “test” button

• Replace any units not responding with new batteries (and date the unit!)

• Make sure each floor has a working CO Detector and a Smoke detector is installed in every room of your house. 

• Most units will last 7-10 years, and will be marked accordingly by the manufacturer. If you’re getting close to or past the experation date, I’d suggest installing a brand new unit. 

  
  

It’s a small task, but can have a big safety impact.

January Home Checklist

January To-Do:

• Inspect weather stripping around exterior doors. If they are worn or air is coming through, it’s time to replace. 

• Check for drafts near windows. If so, you can add weatherstripping on the interior of the window. 

• Run ceiling fans clockwise to circulate warm air. Remember hot air rises!

• Clear dryer vent lint (this prevents fires!)

• Look for and remove any ice/snow build up on your roof edges and gutters. This will prevent unwanted roof damage as spring arrives and the ice/snow melt away.

Motion-sensor lights are great for safety, curb appeal, and avoiding the “where’s my key??” shuffle when it’s pitch black at 5pm…
