Welcome to the Nuts & Bolts

A monthly check-in from Topsail Contracting. Practical tips for your home, smart upgrades, and a cartoon from Dave.

This Month’s Quick Home Tip

Check & Inspect Your Outdoor Living Spaces

It’s been a busy winter of snow, ice, and, most recently, rain. All 3 can reek havoc on your decks, gates, and fences.

What to check:

  • Deck boards and railings, are they secure? Are there any signs of rot or boards popping up?

  • Check gate hardware, do they still close properly, any signs of rust or loose hardware?

  • Ensure stair treads are still secure and tight; loose treads are an immediate red flag - the best time to prevent a slip and fall is before one happens!

April Home Checklist

April Showers Bring — Possible issues!?

  • Inspect fence posts for heaving or leaning caused by freeze/thaw cycles

  • Lubricate garage door hinges, rollers, and tracks

  • Pull the dryer away from the wall and clean the exhaust duct

  • Check under sinks for slow drips or water stains you may have missed over winter

  • Test GFCI outlets in bathrooms, kitchen, and garage — press the test button and make sure they reset properly

Upgrade Your Home!

Whole Home Sub Pump Battery Backup System

April in Upstate NY means heavy rain and rapid snowmelt — a perfect storm for basement flooding. If your home has a sump pump but no battery backup, this is the perfect upgrade.

A battery backup system kicks in during power outages and can save thousands in water damage in the event of a power outage from spring and summer storms.

Life on the Topsail

A Doodle from Dave

a cartoon about a golf prayer

Tee time, anyone?

As spring rolls in, it's just about time for one of my favorite seasons to start.

Golf season! ⛳️

I’ve been playing for over 20 years - though my scores don’t always show that - but it’s been such a fun sport to be a part of.

Here are some lessons the golf course taught me that also apply to my business and life:

  1. All you can do is focus on your next shot

  2. Play the ball as it lies. Sometimes you have a perfect lie, and other times you’re deep in the mud.

  3. Play the course, not your opponent

  4. You may be having a terrible round, but it only takes one sweet shot to give you the confidence - or reminder - that you got this!

And if you really shank it, don’t forget to yell, Foreeeeeeee!

Cheers,

Dave
